What is Natural Process?

The process refers to the strategy used to transform a ripe coffee fruit into a dried seed that can then be roasted. The most common strategy is the Washed Process, meaning that after harvesting, the coffee fruits are pulped and then soaked in water, which creates an environment conducive to fermentation that eats away at the nectar covering the seeds. After this “bath,” the seeds are no longer sticky and are then dried for several days before being bagged up. In a Natural Process, the coffee fruits are harvested and then immediately laid out to dry. No pulping, no washing, nothing. The whole fruit stays on the seed throughout the whole drying process, which takes upwards to 30 days, and is the cause of the incredible sweet and, well, fruity flavors you find in this coffee.

The subtle and intriguing flavors are the best part of this coffee. It is a clean cup that gives a smooth body that is not particularly heavy. This coffee is phenomenal brewed in most methods. It especially shines in Pour Over and Drip devices. We recommend always trying the first 2 sips of your cup of coffee without any additives to experience its natural goodness. After, if it’s your preference, a bit of sweetener doesn’t harm this coffee. Depending on brew method and taste, a splash of milk could work but as it is a medium roast, too much milk can easily hide the coffee.

This was a new one for me to try, and really enjoyed. I think maybe it would be great as an iced coffee too. It came less than a week after I ordered and had just been roasted (it’s really cool to see the roast date on the bag)

The Natural Process coffee is my favorite! I picked up some other roasts for variety, but my order always has at least one bag of Natural Process in it.

To know I’m helping these women grow their business, the quality of their products, and prompt attention to orders coming from another country , I just can’t praise them enough. If you haven’t tried anything from Chica Bean, do yourself a favor and try the sampler pack. I really like the sweeter hints that they offer but you may want something in a darker roast. They have those too. Just give them a try, you’ll be glad you did.
