Siempre Sololá is a collective of indigenous women based in Santa Clara La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala.
Their mission is to increase economic opportunity for Mayan women in the rural highlands of Guatemala. Through allowing women to increase their earnings, we hope to make a small contribution to evening out the power dynamics between the genders, thus empowering the women we work with socially as well as economically.
The group of Siempre Sololá women was brought together with the help of a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in the community from 2018-2020. When all Peace Corps Volunteers around the world were suddenly evacuated due to the COVID19 pandemic, the collective was left without a means to manage their online sales or logistics of their handmade earrings. The group approached Chica Bean as way to join forces, allowing the women to continue their efforts for economic leverage.
