After 10 months of visiting Chica Bean headquarters, learning all about the ins and outs of coffee alongside the Chica Bean women,
the 6th grade girls from the Miguel Magone Home are finally ready to present their final project: their very own coffee brand: Madre Chica Coffee!
Madre Chica Coffee – Education for Guatemalan Girls through Coffee!
$20.00 – $100.00
Coffee with the power to educate!
A delicious limited edition coffee created by the 6th grade girls of Hope Academy and Miguel Magone Home, to fund further education for girls.
LIMITED EDITION!
Women Powered. Girl Engineered. Hope Inspired.
THE INTERNSHIP
From the expected (like how to process a fruit into a coffee bean and the importance of customer surveys) to the wild (like degasification and syphons), the girls from the Miguel Magone Home have delved into the science, business, and realities of the coffee industry. Together with the Chica Bean female coffee professionals, we brewed, tasted, roasted, bubbled, designed, surveyed, packaged, and pushed papers (that was probably their least favorite day)!
THE COFFEE
And through that process, the girls developed their own coffee offerings that they are excited to share with you. They enjoyed making it so much, they couldn’t decide on just one so you have the choice!
Option 1: Del Hogar
Roast: Dark
Process: Washed
Tasting Notes: Traditional Sweets (called Lenguas), Cinnamon Toast, Dark Chocolate
Options 2: Desde la Raíz
Roast: Medium-Dark
Process: Washed
Tasting Notes: Trail Mix, Coconut Sweets, Dark Chocolate
FLYING FORWARD IN THEIR EDUCATION
As part of the logistics lesson, our shipping partners at UPS/CAEX even invited us to tour the airport and get up close and personal with how the products are exported. It was an amazing and eye opening experience for all!
From learning how much work goes into making a seed into a drink to training the palette to find flavors beyond just bitter (and maybe more importantly, to stop using sugar), this program has expanded the girls’ horizons in a practical, safe, and realistically accessible way. We look forward to continuing this internship program. Your purchase will directly go to supporting further educational and mentorship programs like this, so drink up the good!
¡OJO! (Attention!) Important Information:
This coffee will only be available until December 31st, so don’t wait! Order now to make sure you get to be a part of this women powered, girl engineered, hope inspired specialty coffee collaboration!
